Midnight City was a book I didn't expect to love as much as I did. It was a book that had been on my shelves for soooo long and is a part of the TBR pile that needs to be finished before I buy any more books. A filler essentially. Ignored for years upon years (seriously..I have owned this book since 2012...I mean, come on!) Ignored no more after this year!
It was action filled, it had excellent character development, it had multiple povs with that slight "enemies to lovers" and a cute pup that had one too many close calls. The alien aspect was unique. It took alien technology to a level I had yet to experience. Because of the radiation the alien invasion hot spots, some material items took on seemingly magical abilities. (It got more technical than that of course). This is one of the main thing thats sets this book apart from any other dystopian/sci-fi/apocalyptic/whatever you want to label it as. It truly sets the book apart in setting, world building, and phenomena. The main characters, Holt and Mira, were fun and snarky. They challenged each other constantly, little Zoe being the thing that kept them together.
I seriously did not expect to like this book as much as I did. I told myself before starting it that if it wasn't that great, I wouldn't require myself to get the other two books and finish out the series. Little did I know that it would be really freaking good and I'd be researching where to get the next installment. Good news is, the book was great and I found myself wanting to continue to read it. Bad news is, the sequels are rare making them way more expensive than necessary and can only be found online on Book Depository. Cue the big *BOOOOOOO!
So, everyone needs to start buying this book and reading it. Hype it up and make the sequels more accessible and cheaper by demand. Please. I'd really like to know how this series progresses...
Would I recommend it? Yes...that's why I'm asking you guys to buy it. (with selfish intent, maybe)
Book Rating: 4/5 Stars
