Let me just start out by saying this:

This series was hands down the best series completed in 2020. This is the best series I've read in a very long time.

Sabaa Tahir has made a forever reader out of me. I will right whatever she writes from here on out...even if it's a mental note on a napkin. Seriously. I have only read from a few authors who's love for writing, story telling, and their characters shine so bright and burning....Sabaa Tahir is one of them. You feel it in every book - her heart and soul poured into every detail. I found myself babbling to my fiance constantly, trying to explain all the feelings she gave me.

This book quite literally ripped my heart to shreds. I had to stop repeatedly towards the end because I kept tearing up or had to close the book, wish it wasn't true, and then opened it again to keep the torture going.

I was completely taken with each character. I loved them all. I loved to hate the Nightbringer and the Commandant. I...I...Gosh, it's been about 3 weeks since finishing this book and all these flashbacks and feelings I'm reminiscing over still have me a babbling mess!

The writing was incredible, poetic in obvious and subtle ways alike. (Can someone else obsess over the chapter name development throughout the books! PLEASE!!! - I think this and the way in which certain characters addresses each other was top 5 favorite things about these books). I have NEVER experienced such character progression like this. Done so incredibly well. Progression came from main characters and "side" characters to where you really felt a part of their story. The world building was fantastic. I loved getting a scenery change. I loved the different fey lore. I loved every bit and piece of this book. To the sand it bricks themselves.

I know this book got a lot of traction but I feel I saw less of this book than some of the most famous ones right now and it baffles me that this book isn't talked about more! You guys, seriously. If you have not read this series, please stop after reading whatever you are currently, get yourself in the bookstore (online or physical) and get this book! Then go home and immediately start reading. I do not see how anyone can be disappointed with this book. (Though, of course to each their own but just know that I will think you completely insane.)

Five Stars to the book that repeatedly crushed my heart and had me thanking the author for all its love and torture with every page. Thank you for the journey. Thank you for the laughs, the tears, the screams (of anger and excitement), and all the warm and fuzzies. Thank you universe for bestowing such talent that I could witness.

Thank you kehani. My heart has been stitched and will take time to find complete healing but I thank you for the scar.
